Effective way of communication

Nothing could be easier than failing to communicate effectively. More and more people in corporate world are beginning to understand how important good communication is. The ability to communicate well is what lights the fire in people. It’s what turns great ideas into actins. It’s what makes all achievements possible. Communication well is not terribly complicated. Communication, after all, is something every one of us does every day in our personal lives. We’ve all been communicating since the early days of childhood. But, true communication, effective communication, is in fact relatively rare in the adult world.

There is no secret recipe for learning to communicate well, but there are some basis concepts that need to be mastered. Find below the basic steps to a successful communication. If you follow them, you will definitely be on your way.

  1. Making communication a top priority.
  2. Open to others
  3. Willing to listen
  4. Creating a receptive environment for communication.

No matter how busy you are during your day, you need to make time for effective communication. Any brilliant idea in the knowledge industry is useless unless it is shared. Communication helps to share ideas and gain knowledge. There are various methods of achieving communication – meeting, face-face sessions, spending time during the lunch session etc. Communication should always be in 2 directions and it is important to note that communication never stops.

The biggest mistake some managers make is failing to understand that communication absolutely has to be a 2-way street. You have to share your ideas; at the same time you should be prepared to listen. Always make sure that you follow this principle – be open to other people – above, below and beside.

If you can show to your colleagues that you are receptive to their ideas, it created an environment where they will be more receptive to your ideas. Communicating well with your colleagues isn’t enough. You need to communicate well with your customers and clients.

It is relatively easy to become isolated from your colleagues and customers. Note here that no matter how high you get, communication is always the key to your success.

Important thing to remember here – once people do take the risk of telling you what they think, don’t punish them for their openness. Appreciate their openness and courage. Do nothing – absolutely nothing – to discourage them from taking the risk of communicating again.

Effective communication is both a skill and an art. It’s a process worth thinking about and practicing more than most people do. You are sharing with others and asking them to share with you. Don’t think that it is going to be an easy task. It takes time and efforts.

Final thing to keep in mind - effective communication is always built on trusty relationships.
