SHRI WILFY REBIMBUS – MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY…..!!

We are delighted to see, Shri Wilfy Rebimbus, renowned singer, composer, playwright, celebrated his 60th Birthday on 2nd April .2002, and we the Barkurians, have cultivated a very special relationship with him, over the years, join together to wish him A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

It is the Barkur parish, first in the North of the Diocese, confine mainly to Konkani language cultural programmes, have a strong fan following and music lovers, as up to the border Kallianpur – Brahmmavar the language Tulu too familiar and spoken by Catholics as well.

Under different banners – St Peter’s Catholic Youth Association Barkur- Bombay, we sponsored his Wilfy Nite at St. Mary’s Hall, Mazgaon, Bombay on 7th Nov. 1987.A couple of years later once again under the banner of St.Peter’s Association Barkur – Bombay another musical evening at Bhaidas Hall Vile-Parle Bombay on 26th Oct.1989 in aid of our Youth Hostel, at Naigaon Bombay. Recently in the year 1999, on Dec.19th Barkur Church Building  - Platinum Jubilee Committee organised a 'Mega Wilfy Nite', at Makkala Mantapa, SMS College grounds Brahmmavar. In addition to these above, Wilfy’s troupe gave music and  songs to our first ever Drama in Bombay – ‘Mogachi Deswatt’ written by Henry D’Silva Suratkal, on 2nd Nov.1986.

In other words we the Barkurians took Wilfy and his group of artists help to meet our socio-financial needs, in a very big way, outside Barkur. Unfortunately the Barkurians didn’t see him performing on our stage at Barkur, and the consolation is that the CYM of Barkur enacted his great dramas viz Tisri Chit’ in Oct 1981 and ‘Bebdyachi Dhuv’ in Dec. 1986.Let us hope soon we will see his team coming to Barkur, especially under the leadership of CYM Barkur, which is celebrating its Silver Jubilee!!

As a person, Wilfy is a very simple, humble human being as well his family. Sometime back in 1986 one colourful full-fledged article appeared in the ‘Illustrated Weekly of India’ highlighting his contribution to Konkani culture, we his fans, took copies of this and felt very proud to show, and introduce this versatile artist of our mother tongue, to other language friends. We are very happy; he is honoured with various titles, like Konkan Kogul’ and Karnataka ‘Rajyotsava Prashasti’.

If any one done this volume, so effectively and the quality literary works, - in various forms, in other languages, might have honoured with ‘Doctoral Degree’ from any University, long back.!!

As for me – most of his poems, lyrics composed and sung by him is a masterpiece containing high literary or moral value and mirror to the Society. As he has touched and seen from various angles, almost all fields of life,  age and time – their sentiments and relationship, every known  personality of this era and knitted them with melody.

He has given his message in few but crystal clear words, everything he composed have a sensible meaning and entertainment value. Every moment, his voice is listened by hundreds of Konkani lovers over the world, like us, to be honest, who don’t know much about other literary wealth in Konkani..

Long live and Almighty bless Shri Wilfy Rebimbus  and his  family members  and  all those associated with his music world, with good health…….. and anxiously look for your / his  new cassettes and CDs…..……Keep grooming new faces in this field …….and a big thank you,

On behalf of CYM – Barkur Ex-Member’s Committee,
