Swachchatha Abhiyana by ICYM Barkur

Barkur, November 2, 2025-

The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Barkur organized a impactful Swachhtha Abhiyaan, bringing together a large number of enthusiastic participants from various parish associations, including YCS, Altar Boys, and Catholic Sthree Sanghatan. The event was held on Sunday at 9:00 am, with participants gathering at Barkur Church.

The Swachhata Abhiyana was a remarkable community effort aimed at keeping Barkur clean, green, and beautiful. The drive took place from Barkur Church to Kalchapura, covering the main streets, market areas, and residential lanes. The participants collected plastics and other waste materials, spreading awareness about cleanliness, hygiene, and civic responsibility among the people of Barkur.

The event was graced by the presence of Fr. Ronald Miranda, the Parish Priest, who encouraged and blessed the efforts of the participants. Mr. Joseph Fernandes, Vice-President of the Parish Council, also attended the event, expressing his appreciation for the initiative. ICYM Animator Johnson Dalmeida, along with YCS Animators Sr. Jasmitha Crasta and Brian Dsouza, played a pivotal role in organizing and executing the event.

The parish priest and youths addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of cleanliness and the role of each citizen in maintaining it. By the end of the event, the stretch from Barkur Church to Kalchapura looked fresh and tidy. The event also encouraged people to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

The Swachhtha Abhiyaan was a resounding success, with participants demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental conservation and community service. The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed pledge to work towards a cleaner, greener Barkur.
