MAKKALA SAHITHYA SAMMELANA HELD AT BARKUR

The 3^rd   Makkala Sahithya Sammelana was held at National Pre-University College, Barkur on the 11^th  and 12^th January 2002.The Sammelana was inaugurated by the Dean (Correspondant of Kannada Sahithya, Purandaradasa Adhyayana Peeta) of Kannada Vishwa- Vidhyanilaya, Hampe, Prof. A. V. Navada.  Dr Na. Mogasale, Poet, Kanthavara, Karkala was the guest of honour during the inaugural ceremony. Sri Vittaldas Bannanje, A.E.O. and Sri K Raghavendra R. Pai, Director for Yoga, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala were present  during the occasion.

Miss Ganga of B.M.M. High School, Kuradi who is presently studing in 10^th  standard presided over the function as  "Sammelana Adhyekshe" .

During the valedictory ceremony which was held on 12^th  evening, Miss Chaitra H., who got the 1^st place in Udupi Taluk in the SSLC examinations was honoured.

The programme was jointly organised by Shanthi Vana Trust, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Belgaum and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Barkur.

EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS OF SRI SUBRAYA SHASTRY,BARKUR

On 11^th and 12^th January, an exhibition of paintings by,   Sri Subraya Shastry of Moodukere, Barkur,  a talented  son of Barkur  (Elder brother of Mr Vishwanath Shastry  and Mr Seetharam  Shastry of M/s Vishwas Studio, Barkur) was arranged at National Pre  University College campus.

More than 70 rare paintings were exhibited . Students and general public  had an occasion  of  witnessing the beautiful paintings and appreciate  the God given gift  to Mr. Shastry.

 

KENDA SEVA AND DHARMA SABHA AT BABBU SWAMY TEMPLE, BARKUR.

Recently  Barkur  witnessed  a  special religious ceremony at Babbu Swamy Temple, Halekody, Barkur. Thousands of people visited the temple and performed poojas.  "Kenda Seve"  was  performed on 4th night and "Dharma sabha" was held on 5^th. Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde, M. L. A.  presided over the stage programme and the same  was  inaugurated by  Mr Shantharam Shetty,  leading businessman.  Sri Ganesh Amin Sankamar  explained the  historical facts about "Sri Kacchura Maldhi" and "Sri Babbu Swamy" temple of Barkur.  Mr Raghuram Shetty of Kodi Kandala Kshetra stressed that without  knowing  the  histoical  facts  one  should not  perform yakshagana drama etc.

During the  general  body meeting it was resolved to renovate the temple and it  should  be  developed  as a tourist spot.  Mr. B. Bhujanga Shetty, Zilla Panchayath member, Mr.Rama Kotian, Mr. Sheena Poojary, Mr. Shekara Poojary,  Mr. Eshwara,  Mangalore etc. presented their  views on the occasion.  About 4000 devotees from  about 300 Babbu Swamy temples took part in the Kenda Seve and Dharma Sabha.

While Sri Karunakara Master,  Malpe  welcomed the  gathering, Sri Narayana Master,  Kukkude  performed  vote of thanks. Mr. Gokuldas Barkur,  General  Secretary  of  the  Seva  Samithi conducted the proceedings.

One more less known fact about our native BARKUR....!

During the recently celebrated Centenary Celebrations of Udupi District Court, on 11th January, 2003, it was disclosed that, about 150 years back, that is, as as early as in 1850 or so British Government of that time established District Muncief Court at BARKUR being this place was district Head quarter at that time.
It had Talukas of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala etc. under its jurisdiction. Still the Court Suit Register preserved at Udupi,  is having records of cases filed as early as in 1853, when it was operated from Barkur!

 Crib Competition

The annual crib competitions results were announced on the New year day in Barkur church and the Ward  and Parish level winners were distributed with prizes. Parish level first place was shared by Sydney Lewis and Kelron Pais. We are publishing the fotografs of the prize winning crib of Sydney Lewis of Bennekudru while  awaiting the fotofrafs from Kelron Pais.

Sydney John Lewis is recently graduated from Manipal Institute Of Technology as B.E. degree holder in Mechanical Engineering , is the eldest son of Mrs.Gretta and Mr.Staney Lewis, currently at Bombay doing his Marine Engineering Cource at Bombay. We wish   him all the best in his endeavors.

New year Celebration!

There were nearly 120 people from all over Barkur, attended dinner and Dance party hosted by Santhegudde Cricketers Barkur at Government school grounds, Santhegudde. Along with Santhegudde Friends Kalchapra Friends, Bennekudru Friends, Gym Friends attended the eve. The New Year was welcomed by dazzling fireworks. It was a HIT SHOW. Arun Poojary, Javed, Santosh Poojary, Madhukar Poojary were the   conveners of the event.

Shaniraja Festival  

The 3^rd annual Shaniraja Festival was celebrated recently, under the guidance of Chief Priest Vedamoorthi Vadiraja Bhat at the Moodukeri Venugopalakrishna Temple, Barkur.
