STATE LEVEL SPORTS COMPETETIONS AT S. M. S. COLLEGE The states level sports meet (2002-2003) was held at St. Mary’s Syrian College grounds recently for the Higher Primary School students, won the admiration of all and received a wide coverage from all the leading newspapers, All India Radio and Doordarshan. The sports meet was successfully completed at the partly constructed Sports Ground Extension and the construction of a National standard Stadium at the College Venue, at a estimated cost of Rs. 30 Lakhs (60,000 US $), an ambitious project of the O.S.E. educational society ,Brahmavar. The main objectives of the project is to meet the sporting needs of the 1500 students in the High School and Pre University level, and to provide this facility to the 2 primary schools, First grade college, and the English Medium School with a student population of 2000, managed by the society, and to extend the use of facility to the neighboring institutes and to the general public, and to conduct the District, State and National level Sporting activities.

Already completed play ground. The total estimated cost of Rs.12.00 lakhs, out of this the authorities have already spent Rs. 7.50 lakhs and the work is progressing.
Karnataka State level Athletic meet was held in S.M.S. grounds on 12th , 13th and 14th December 2002.

STD codes as per SDCA have been brought into effect again from January
18. But the present six digit direct dialing system which comes under
the Telecom district area will continue, according to a note issued by
the General Manager of SK Telecom District, Mangalore. Puttur 08251, Udupi 08252, Hebri 08253, Bantwal 08255, Belthangady 08256,Sullia 08257, Karkala 08258 and Shankaranarayana 08259. HILLS TROPHY - 2003 AT BARKUR The Simhasana Gudde Cricketers' are conducting Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada district level 30 yard, day and night cricket match at Simhasana Gudde on 25th and 26th January 2003. Till today 34 teams have registered their names in the tournament. The winners will be awarded Rs. 10010.00 and permanent shield and the runners will get Rs. 6006.00 along with a permanent shield. All the teams reaching semi final will be awarded with Rs. 1111.00. They won this prestigious award in the State level "Prathibha Karanji" (Fountain of Talents) programme held at Kundapur recently.
Miss Sahana Shenoy, Miss Pallavi, Miss Smilie Picardo, Miss Rajashree of 9Th standard, and Miss Sowmya and Miss Deepika from 10th Standard danced to the tune of “Vande Matharam” to win the coveted award.
