Under the leadership of the Environment Commission and in collaboration with the Catholic Sabha, Barkur Parish celebrated 'Laudato Si' Day with a meaningful environmental program.
The parish organized a plant distribution drive, sourcing fruit and flowering saplings from local nurseries and making them available to parishioners at subsidized rates, along with guidance on proper plantation techniques. A total of 160 saplings were sold during the event.
In a generous gesture, Mr. Silvan Dalmeida from Nagarmat donated 90 Coconut plants to interested parishioners. The program was graced by Parish Priest Fr. Ronald Miranda and Rev Doctor Fr. Ivan Dalmeida, who blessed the initiative.
The successful event was coordinated by Environment Commission In Charge Mr. Praveen Carvalho, Parish Council Vice-President Mr. Jossie Fernandes, Secretary Mr. Eric Soans, Commission Coordinator Mr. Herald D'Souza, along with members of the Environment Commission and Catholic Sabha.
This initiative reflects the parish's commitment to Pope Francis' encyclical 'Laudato Si', which calls for care of our common home and environmental stewardship. The program not only promoted green practices but also made plants accessible to the community at affordable prices, demonstrating the parish's dedication to both environmental conservation and social welfare.
The celebration successfully combined spiritual values with practical environmental action, encouraging parishioners to actively participate in protecting and nurturing the environment in their daily lives.
