Historic Barkur Set for Comprehensive Development as Tourism Committee Formed

In a significant move towards the comprehensive development of Barkur, the historic capital of Tulunad, prominent businessmen Sri Vithal Hegde from Belagavi's hotel industry and Suggi Sudhakar Shetty from Hubballi met with senior government officials during the legislative assembly session.

The delegation, led by Hon'ble Speaker Basaraj Horatti, presented a memorandum to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Tourism Minister H.K. Patil, outlining their vision for Barkur's development.

Government Commits to Heritage Preservation

Recognizing Barkur as the ancient capital of the Tulu kingdom, the Tourism Minister assured the formation of a dedicated committee to preserve the region's historical sites and conduct research into its rich heritage. The minister expressed confidence in developing this area, which holds immense historical significance and cultural traditions.

"Barkur represents a treasure trove of history and heritage that deserves proper preservation and development," officials stated during the meeting.

High-Level Support

The meeting saw the participation of Udupi District In-Charge Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar along with other ministers and legislators, indicating strong governmental support for the initiative.
