Community Leaders Honor Local Achievers During Parish Feast Celebrations

The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Barkur marked its 49th Annual Day with vibrant celebrations on the evening of the Parish Feast day. The event was graced by Fr. Stephen Fernandes, Diocesan Youth Director, and Mr. B. Shantharam Shetty, President of Barkur Grama Panchayath, as chief guests.

Honoring Excellence

A highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of two distinguished achievers who have brought pride to the Barkur community. Mr. B. Shantharam Shetty was honored for recently receiving the prestigious Sahakara Rathna award from the Government of Karnataka, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the cooperative movement. This state-level honor acknowledges his dedicated leadership in strengthening cooperative institutions and promoting rural economic empowerment.

The event also celebrated Roshan Lobo, who has excelled in powerlifting, bringing recognition to Barkur through his remarkable athletic achievements. His dedication and success in this demanding sport serve as an inspiration to young athletes in the community.

Building Community Since 1976

As ICYM Barkur approaches its Golden Jubilee in 2026, the organization's journey from 1976 to the present reflects an unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and community building. What distinguishes ICYM Barkur is its focus on creating genuine community bonds rather than merely conducting activities. This philosophy has enabled the organization to foster lasting relationships among young people while developing their leadership qualities and social responsibility.

Over nearly five decades, ICYM Barkur has addressed the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social dimensions of youth development. This holistic approach has helped countless young individuals discover their potential and emerge as responsible citizens and faith-filled members of society.

Cultural Celebrations

The evening featured a variety of entertainment programs presented by ICYM members and other parish associations. These cultural presentations, including music, dance, drama, and comedy, showcased the talents and creativity of participants while strengthening inter-group relationships and fostering community unity.

The successful 49th Annual Day celebration, with its blend of recognition, entertainment, and fellowship, sets a positive tone for the upcoming Golden Jubilee year. It reaffirms ICYM Barkur's continued relevance as a vital force in nurturing young leaders and strengthening the faith community. As the organization prepares to complete five decades of service, it does so with gratitude for the past and renewed commitment to empowering future generations.
