Barkur's javelin prodigy adds another national medal to a fast-growing collection

Karishma S. Sanil of Barkur has once again made her hometown proud, winning a silver medal in the women's javelin throw at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The daughter of Indira and Sudarshan Sanil of Barkur, Karishma continues to scale new heights with every competition she enters. Special recognition goes to her coach, Kashinath Naik, whose guidance has been central to her rise.

This latest achievement is no flash in the pan. In August 2024, Karishma won gold at the 89th All India Inter Railway Athletics Championship held in Rae Bareli, announcing herself as one of the top performers in railways athletics. She then carried that momentum into the National Games 2025 in Uttarakhand, where she threw 55.55 metres to claim silver in the women's javelin — a landmark performance that placed her firmly among India's national-level elite.

On the international stage, she represented India at the South Asian Senior Athletic Championship in Ranchi in October 2025, again winning silver — her first major international podium finish.

The Bhubaneswar silver at the National Inter-State Championship now adds another chapter to what is becoming a remarkable career across multiple formats and levels of competition.

Barkur, a small coastal town in Karnataka's Udupi district, has long produced individuals of distinction. In Karishma S. Sanil, it has a nationally recognised athlete whose consistent performances are drawing well-deserved attention to the region's sporting potential. The entire community joins in congratulating her and wishing her continued success on the national and international stage.
