The Mangalore University Inter-College Women's Throwball Tournament (North Zone) was successfully organized by Smt. Rukmini Shetty Memorial National Government First Grade College and Post-Graduate Study Centre, Barkur, on Monday, April 6, 2026, on the college grounds.
A total of 19 colleges from the zone participated in the tournament, with students competing with great enthusiasm and energy throughout the day.





The event was inaugurated by Sri Surendra Shetty, Trustee of the Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, who encouraged the athletes and commended the organizers for their efforts in promoting women's sports. The programme was presided over by the college Principal, Sri Bhaskar Shetty S.
Distinguished guests at the event included Dr. Gerald Santosh D'Souza, Director of Physical Education, Mangalore University; Sri Rajarama Shetty, Member of the College Development Committee; Smt. Savitha, Director of Physical Education at Kapu National Government First Grade College and Observer from Mangalore University; Smt. Sumathi, Director of Physical Education; and Sri Ameer Basha, Member of the College Development Committee.





The athletes displayed outstanding skill, strength, and sportsmanship throughout the day-long competition. After intense competition, Alvas College, Moodbidri claimed the Champion title, while Dr. G. Shankar Government Women's First Grade College and Post-Graduate Study Centre, Ajjarakadu, Udupi secured the Runner-Up position.





The valedictory ceremony was presided over by Pro. Bhaskar Shetty S. Chief guests Sri Srinivasa Shettigar, Sri M. Chandrashekar Hegde, Smt. Savitha, Smt. Sumathi, and Pro. Prasad Rao M. congratulated the winners and presented awards to the champion and runner-up teams, praising all participating teams for their enthusiastic involvement, sportsmanship, and commendable performances.
The event was attended by college students, alumni, the Parent-Teacher Association, and teaching and non-teaching staff.
