-Prof. P. Archibald Furtado
Barkur rejoices in yet another proud academic milestone as Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo, an eminent priest, educationist, and administrator, has been awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, for his doctoral thesis titled 'The Potential Effects of Theaflavin and the derivatives on Oral Cancer: In Vitro and in Vivo Studies' from PRIST University Thanjavur Tamil Nadu, marking a significant achievement in his distinguished academic and pastoral journey.

Born to Mr. William Lobo and Mrs. Mary Lobo, a deeply devout and value-centred Christian couple of Barkur, Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo was nurtured in an environment where faith, discipline, education, and service to the Church were integral to daily life. This strong foundation played a vital role in shaping his vocation to the priesthood and his lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.
From his early years, Fr. Vijay displayed a keen intellect, clarity of thought, and a deep love for knowledge. These qualities, coupled with his priestly calling, gradually led him to pursue higher studies alongside his pastoral and educational responsibilities. His perseverance, scholarly discipline, and intellectual rigour have now culminated in the successful completion of his doctoral research, earning him the prestigious Ph.D. degree—a testament to his dedication to academic excellence and research.
Earlier, Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo served as the Principal of the prestigious Milagres PU College, Kallianpur also St. Philomena PU College, Puttur, in the Diocese of Mangalore, and now in Ujjre College where he is widely respected as a great academician, visionary leader, and mentor. Under his dynamic leadership, the institution has continued to flourish academically while remaining deeply rooted in values, discipline, and holistic formation of students.
Fr. Vijay’s achievement is not merely a personal honour but a proud moment for the Church, the Diocese, the educational fraternity, and his native place Barkur. His scholarly accomplishment beautifully complements his priestly mission, reinforcing the truth that the pursuit of knowledge, when rooted in faith, becomes a powerful instrument for transformation.
This joy is further shared within a family richly blessed with vocations.
Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo’s sister, Sr. Vinisha Lobo, SCC, a distinguished educator and administrator, also holds a Doctorate in English and recently celebrated her Silver Jubilee of Religious Life. Together with their brother Rev. Fr. Vishal Lobo, Parish Priest of Fatima Church, Perampally, Diocese of Udupi, the family stands as a shining witness to a home deeply consecrated to God through priestly, religious, and academic service.
As Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo attains this remarkable academic milestone, heartfelt congratulations and prayerful best wishes pour in from all quarters. May this achievement further strengthen his mission as an educator and priest, enabling him to inspire countless young minds to pursue excellence with integrity, faith, and commitment.
