"Tuvem Gaithana" — A Tribute to the Konkan Kogul

We are happy to bring a cover version of the timeless melody of "Tuvem Gaithana"  born from the heart of Mr. Wilson Olivera of Padukone — a soulful composition and a loving tribute to the legendary Konkan Kogul, the Late Wilfy Rebimbus, whose music continues to live on in the hearts of countless fans.

The Konkan Kogul — Late Wilfy Rebimbus

Wilfred Gerald "Wilfy" Rebimbus (2 April 1942 – 9 March 2010) was a celebrated Konkani singer-songwriter, lyricist, and playwright, beloved for his compositions in Konkani and Tulu. He earned the iconic nickname "Konkan Kogul" — meaning the cuckoo, or songbird, of the Konkan coast.

Beginning his musical journey at just 14 years of age, Wilfy went on to compose thousands of songs over a career spanning four decades, releasing around 40 albums and staging a remarkable 248 "Wilfy Nites." Among his many honours were the Karnataka Rajyotsav Award (1991), the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award (1996), and the title of "Sangeeta Chakravarti" conferred by the Abu Dhabi Konkani Sangh. Posthumously, Pope Benedict XVI awarded him the prestigious "Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice" honour, presented by Bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza at Milagres Church, Mangalore, in recognition of his extraordinary devotion to the Church and his immeasurable contributions to Konkani music worldwide.

Wilson Olivera — Sangeeth Sardar of Konkani

Born in Padukone, a small village in Kundapura Taluk of Udupi District, Karnataka, in 1966, Wilson Olivera began his singing career at the age of sixteen. Over the decades, he has delivered more than 50 musical shows, published seven albums, and composed over 800 songs in Konkani. In 2003, he was honoured with the prestigious Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award, and is also the recipient of the Sandesha Award.

Fans and critics alike have long noted that his voice carries a striking resemblance to Wilfy Rebimbus, and he is widely regarded as one of the foremost artists carrying the legend's musical legacy forward. As recently as January 2025, his 56th Wilson Olivera Nite was held to packed audiences of devoted Konkani music lovers.

Master Gaurav John Carvalho — Child Prodigy from Barkur

Gaurav John Carvalho is the proud son of Sushma and Praveen Carvalho of Barkur, and the youngest sibling of Vishwas and Mahima Carvalho. A deeply passionate admirer of Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus, young Gaurav has self-taught himself more than 100 of Wilfy's songs — complete with the accompanying music, preludes, and interludes — a testament to his extraordinary dedication and natural gift.

Already described as a child prodigy, Gaurav has graced the stage at events such as the Mini Wilfy Nite in Mangalore in November 2024, showing the world that even at a tender age, he carries Wilfy's flame with remarkable talent and heartfelt devotion.

Together, these three connect across generations — Wilfy, the eternal legend; Wilson, the torchbearer who composed "Tuvem Gaithana" as a heartfelt tribute; and young Gaurav, who now carries that same flame forward with innocence, love, and boundless promise.

We hope this rendition touches your heart, just as the original always has.
