The web-site called:

www.maaibhaas.com and Shri Naveen Sequeira

On a auspicious day Naveen Sequeira must have dreamed to have a Konkanni Language Website and today its popularity, appeal, flavour and content shows the positive signs that dedication and the hard work behind this marvellous work will not go in vein.

What I honestly feel is, as the catchy title of the site states, it is truly SWEET MAAI-BHASS. COM. Many people may write in English and few truly mastered the language, especially in prose and they all deserve recognition and praises. But me, true to conscience feel more at home, while reading this site ‘Konkanni in Kannada Script’.

The short stories, Mukhan, best of the lot in variety -  penned by living legends in Konkanni presented by Valerian Quadros, Edwin F.D’Souza’s Ruka Mulantle Upades, Gerry D’Mello in Sangitaangan,  Andrew L. D’Cunha’s Kavita Valloh, George Pinto in Jinye-Rodahn, with few other features are of the highest quality literary work.

This young man, Naveen, though belong to my parish of Barkur, rarely seen him here, - of course I left the place as early as 1984, - contrary to this, his elder sister Nirmala was the Vice president of the CYM Barkur during the 1986, when the unit celebrated Decennial Celebrations, on a grand scale, was a popular figure and now the first lady as the wife of Ivan M.Rebello, the president of ICYM Ex-Member’s Association.

If remember correctly, saw one young lad, keen to watch rehearsals of stage programmes late evenings, in those days, in the Church compounds, must be this Naveen accompanying his sister, on her way back to distant Matpady, after the drama practice. He must have fallen in love with Konkanni at that tender age and accomplished a great feat of becoming the Pioneer to Host such a site in mother tongue.

I don’t have any idea - on average number of visitors, every day, but sure, majority of Mangalorean Konkanni speaking community who have access to Internet facility, feel more easy, close to their heart and taste the beauty of the language in Kannada script, as a matter of fact, all of us - say most of us, studied in this medium and average standard at present may be High school level.

There is no exaggeration if state, Daiji Dubai of Walty Nandalike, is appealing to classes, but Mai-bhass .com of Naveen, surely a portal of masses.

We at Barkur.com, feel proud of the brain behind this work - Naveen Sequeira, a fellow Barkurian, an icon and a rising star in the Konkanni horizon, deserve ably saluted, thanked and we wish his dream mission a long stay and all-round success, let his work reach every Konkanni household and encourage young and old to come out with great works in our mother tongue.

Few suggestions to make the site more attractive:

A] Gift of writing is there with one among ten, it is the opportunity and the placement makes him/her to attempt for great or rare works, bringing down the ratio to one in hundred, in these days cyber age, print media or books still maintain its importance in the media, many young men are now offered / encouraged with this opportunity, can find a place in Mai-bhass .com a world stage, to exhibit their talents over here, in days to come.

B] Personally, I feel many regular columns can also be thought of publishing in a Book form later and good old forgotten yesteryears works of eminent writers like V.J.P., J.S.Alvares, Victor Rodrigues, C.F.D’Costa, A.T.Lobo etc can be read by the present generation, if host publish them.

C] As the site is on its way to be a live magazine, more attention can be given to current affairs and discussion on social issues.

Lastly, these few lines will be incomplete, if I miss ‘Chitran & Chutukan’ of Naveen himself, it is not an easy task to be sweet and short, while communicating, and this man is on his way to master this art, keep it up!

Before calling a close, we too invite you to have a look at this site and pass your own judgement and I ‘m sure you’ll visit it time and again!

Once again, let us congratulate Mr Naveen Sequeira and his team and wish him / them, all success in his / their endeavours.
