World Environment Day was meaningfully observed at National Higher Primary School, Hanehalli, Barkur, with an awareness programme aimed at instilling environmental responsibility among young minds.
Though the participants were small children, the programme carried a profound message. The teachers and invited speakers effectively highlighted the significance of Mother Earth, emphasizing the deep relationship between human beings and nature, and the shared responsibility to preserve it for a healthy and sustainable future.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Seetharama Shastri, a renowned photographer and artist, delivered an inspiring address. He fondly recalled his childhood days spent in this very alma mater nearly five decades ago and spoke about his close bond with nature—trees, plants, fields, and the rhythm of seasons. Reflecting on present-day challenges, he pointed out how plastic usage, industrial expansion, increasing vehicular traffic, and the neglect of agricultural lands have contributed significantly to environmental degradation. He expressed concern that villages are slowly losing their natural charm in the name of modernization. He urged children to understand that nature is our common home and that it is our duty to protect and preserve it not only for ourselves but also for future generations.

In his introductory remarks, the Headmaster, Mr. Udaya Shetty, emphasized that learning and living go hand in hand. He stated that caring for one another and protecting the environment is a shared responsibility, and such values must be nurtured in children from an early age. He appreciated the efforts of Alliance Club Barkur and other sponsors for supporting the programme.

The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Hemavathy P.S., Headmistress of National High School, expressed her happiness in being part of the programme. She advised that environmental protection should not be limited to one-day celebrations but should become a part of daily life through small, consistent efforts.
The programme was well organized by the dedicated efforts of teachers Ms. Shailaja, Mr. Navyalatha, and Ms. Suma. Attractive placards and banners carrying environmental messages were displayed to spread awareness among students.
A symbolic plantation drive was conducted during the programme, where guests and students planted saplings generously sponsored by Alliance Club Barkur President Mr Sudarshan Shetty Molahalli and vegetable seeds, reinforcing the message of maintaining a clean and green environment.
The event concluded on a hopeful note, with a strong message that collective awareness and small individual actions can lead to a greener and healthier future.
