The spacious auditorium of ‘National Junior College, Barkur’ was filled with excitement, curiosity, and youthful energy as the much-awaited 'Science Exhibition 2025' unfolded on Saturday, 30th August, 2025. The event, which showcased nearly 50 live experiments and prototype models based on the science curriculum of Classes VIII to X, was an inspiring blend of knowledge, creativity, and innovation.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated at 11.00 a.m. with a symbolic scientific demonstration – igniting fire using potassium permanganate and glycerin by Mr. Archibald Furtado, Admn Coordinator of National Group of Educational Institutions, managed by The Barkur Educational Society – in the presence of Mrs. Hemavathy P. S., Headmistress of National High School, Mr. Udaya Shetty, Headmaster of National Primary School, Hanehalli, staff members, lecturers, and an enthusiastic student community as Mr. Maruti, Kannada Teacher, briefly introduced the objectives of the programme.
At 3.00 pm the concluding ceremony was scheduled has to be delayed by 30 minutes as the visitors were huge in number, soon after the prayer hymn by students, Mrs. Jyothy A. Shetty extended a cordial and homely welcome to all gathered followed by roses offered by Mr. Prabhakar Sanskrit teacher to all guests on stage.
Addressing the gathering during the valedictory session, at 3.30 pm Prof Balakrishna Hegde, Retired Principal of Tenkanidiyur Govt College, the Chief Guest expressed his admiration for the young participants:
“As we look around this hall, filled with curiosity, creativity, and young energy, we are reminded that science is not just a subject in textbooks – it is the spirit of inquiry, the courage to question, and the joy of discovering the unknown. What we see here is not merely models or projects, but the dreams and imaginations of our students taking shape in real form.”
Mr. Archibald Furtado, in his address appreciated the untiring efforts of Mrs. Jyothi A. Shetty, Senior Science Teacher, for planning and presenting the exhibition with such depth and vision, making knowledge come alive through application and demonstration, the Head Mistress Mrs. Hemavathy PS, all teaching staff, Mr. Kiran and Team of Galaxy Kundapoor, Mr. Udaya Shetty HM of National Primary School, Hanehalli, Craft teacher Mrs. Kamala M. for their Crafts collections and all who made the Exhibition really fruitful….
The main sponsor of the event, 'National Old Students Association', its dynamic President Mr. Sankadi Karunakar Shetty presided over the glittering finale, in his inspiring words, reminded students that science is not only about progress and technology but also about values:
‘Science teaches us precision, patience, teamwork, and perseverance. Each of these exhibits, whether simple or complex, carries within it a spark – a spark that may one day ignite a great discovery or invention’. He also congratulated the students, with special mention to Team Galaxy Hemmadi and its leader Mr. Kiran and team, for their outstanding participation with attractive models, and also acknowledged the tireless efforts of teachers who guided and encouraged every participant.
Mr. Kiran expressed his happiness to be in this beautiful National Campus and visible curiosity in students to learn more really touched him as he appreciated the visiting students around Barkur.
The exhibition attracted visitors from nearby schools including SVVN Heradi-Barkur, Nadur High School, and Kurady, providing them a valuable glimpse of practical science in action.
On behalf of Organizers HM Mrs. Hemavathy concluded with vote of thanks with a motivating message: “Let this exhibition not be the end of your curiosity, but the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning. Continue to question, continue to experiment, and continue to believe that your ideas can change the world.”
This year's 'Science Exhibition 2025' came to a proud and joyful close at 4.30 p.m., leaving behind an inspiring impression – as the MC of the event Mr. Maruti KP, Kannada teacher wind up stating ‘science is not just a subject, but truly a way of life: practical, creative, and full of wonder’.
